We called her Bertha
We Called her Bertha on kahden tanssijan ja kontrabasistin toteuttama hypnoottinen näyttämöteos, jossa kehollinen metamorfoosi kuljettaa katsojaa ajassa nuoruudesta vanhuuteen, muistoista haaveisiin. Maalauksellisessa teoksessa toiveet muuttuvat todellisuudeksi, maisemat vääristyvät ja ajan kulku on arvaamatonta.

Elovaaran ja Ilesin taival teoksen tematiikan ja muotokielen parissa alkoi jo vuosia sitten Kaukaa Haettua tanssiteoksen yhteydessä. Yli kymmenen vuoden jälkeen, syksyllä 2020, säveltäjä Ville Rauhalan ja skenografi Mirkka Nyrhisen tuomien uusien näkökulmien myötä siemenestä alkoi kasvaa kokonainen näyttämöteos.

We called her Bertha
We Called her Bertha is a hypnotic work performed by two dancers and a double bass player, where bodily metamorphosis transports the viewer through time from youth to old age, from memories to dreams. In this picturesque performance, wishes become reality, landscapes are distorted and the passage of time is unpredictable.

Elovaara and Iles' work with performance's theme and form started years ago in connection with the dance piece Kaukaa Haettu. After more than ten years, in the fall of 2020, with the new perspectives brought by composer Ville Rauhala and scenographer Mirkka Nyrhinen, the seed began to grow into an entire stage work.
